Adult Groups and Activities
The Network
'The Network’ is aimed at those in their 20s-40s and meets throughout the year with a mixture of social events and discussion sessions. The discussion sessions are informal and vary in their content. They are accessible to everyone and you don’t have to be in the age group of 20s-40s to attend or be a regular church goer. Past discussions have ranged from what guides our voting decisions to prayer to sustainability. We hold 6 discussion evenings a year and often try to follow up on the theme of the monthly Spotlight service (which is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month). Social events have included trips to Top Golf, pub quizzes, meals and games evenings. We also organise a couple of annual activities aimed at those with families – a picnic at the start of the new school year and a children’s Christmas Party in December.
If you are interested in being on the mailing list for the Network to get updates on future events then please contact Helen Cox on helen.gosnell@btinternet.com
Mothers' Union
St Oswald's Mothers' Union is one group of Diocesan Group Members who meet, usually on the second Thursday of each month (not the month of January) at 2.30 pm in the Church.
There are also Diocesan Individual Members who are unable, for whatever reason, to come along to our meetings.
We arrange a variety of activities, from outside speakers on a wide variety of subjects, visits out. and sometimes our members take the meeting on a subject of interest to them. At each meeting we have a cuppa with biscuits/cake and a chat.
If you are interested in coming along to the Afternoon Group please contact Janet Staerck 01923 776694 - a warm welcome and cuppa awaits.
Home Group
Home groups usually run during Lent and Advent. We study a wide variety of topics, relating to the Old Testament (such as the life of Elijah, a cooks tour of book of Job) and the New Testament - like the book of Revelation (chapters 1-5, 21 and 22). We also tackle some topical studies, how to read different types of Biblical texts, think about the way we understand Creation, and have shorter studies about individual characters who are less well known like Hagar, Hulda and John Mark.
Sometimes we do something practical. One Advent we collected small Christmas gifts in a reverse Advent Calendar: we put things in rather than taking them out!
We start our meetings in a relaxed way with tea, coffee and chat and finish with a reflection and prayers. Everybody is welcome to join us!

Men's Breakfast
On Saturday mornings at 7.45 a.m once a month (except August) we have a cooked breakfast – a popular menu is juice, cereals, and bacon butties - followed by a talk or discussion on a variety of subjects, both serious and not-so-serious. All men (young or old, churchgoers or not) are welcome.
